Basically being able to link your clips with the music and aesthetic of the song/whatever you’re going for. Some people sync using the lyrics of the song, rhythms of the vocal lines, or the beats of the song. A great example:

I’d sometimes edit how I’m feeling with a song and it wouldn’t necessarily seem synced. An example would be around 0:57:

Yes I agree and your definitions were thorough. But still why?

I'd share my thoughts soon later.

Are you questioning like a teacher who knows the answer they want to hear but wants the student to say it?

With out syncing, the video would be without rhythm and connection to the audio. Simple.

My purpose for it is to create structure.

If your question is what's my purpose behind synchronizing, then it's to build structure to my interpretation of what I'm listening to and edit based on that. My ideas on particular clip choices heavily depend on that as well as I want those watching to have the same reaction that I have when hearing a sudden change of note or pace.

@Everette I disagree with the 0:57. I think it is synced because you are syncing with the (many) exclamation points (in the vocals and many other things) in the song all of which provides that needed energy.

I think a lot of songs whether it'd be fast or even slower jams has its energy waiting to be released. Many of which are in the rhythm and melody. In Everette's video example there were many in the power vocals and symbols as well. Nicely done video.

I can't say enough about this one recent video: Pinkelements the end video:
A good example of maximizing the song's energy to the fullest. Quite euphoric.
