I really like the simplicity of this video and it seems to be an approach that has worked very well for you over the past two or so years. While that doesn't sound very complimentary, I think it's very hard to pull off these types of videos as you need a really strong sense of clip and musical selection that keeps the viewer interested, two things you do very well, imo. Thought you profiled AJ's somewhat manic character very well with your song choice and use of footage with your editing being all-around very solid. Very enjoyable video overall.
Arguden: This was a pretty good watch overall. Thought you profiled Shibata well enough here and your editing was pretty solid though I would say a bit one-dimensional. While the song doesn't offer much as the rhythm is pretty monotone, felt you could've done a bit more as your technique got stale after a while. Thought you tried to do something a little different once the chorus hit, but the glitch effect wasn't enough as you didn't really change your technique much during that section. Your editing wasn't bad by any means, just wished there was more there as it got repetitive after a while. Solid video overall.
My Choice - Going to give Blackie the edge here. Really close match-up imo.
Arguden: I. LOVE. THIS. SO. DAMN. MUCH! The aesthetic is amazing. Kind of reminds me of the aesthetics from Wong Kar Wai films. Don't know if you've seen any of his work, but they tend to be very moody. This has a similar moody feeling to it; it's probably due to the song and dark/warm CC. The song weirdly goes well with your subject choice. It has a similar resemblance to Rev's Minoru Suzuki video from 3 years ago - where the song was chill and the wrestler is seen killing his opponents with stiff strikes. It's cool tho how you chose to edit to a song like this, since you typically edit with a more faster pace type of song. It definitely stands out compared to your other work.
Your editing was great as usual. Similar to your opponents video, it was minimalistic. Barely including any strong effects or crazy cutting.
I liked the glitches you included. Although I didn't find them to look as appealing, I thought it was cool how you matched them with the record scratching.
Awesome clip selection. Loved a lot of the entrance shots included at the start, and as well as the expression shots of him later in the video. And even though there wasn't any flashy editing or change of pace, I thought that the good clip selection kept me entertained. Cause who doesn't love seeing Daddy Shibata beat the hell out of people! Had a fun time watching this numerous times.
This was hard to pick. I keep watching both videos back and forth and I honestly can't decide who's video I preferred.
Vote: Arguden. Like I mentioned before, the aesthetic in Argi's video is beautiful. And I think Argi does the best job out of both videos at picking the right clips to match the tone he was going for.
