Blackie : Very nice! I liked how you kept it simple yet very entertaining. Pacing, synching are to the point. Nothing bad to say really. I would just say that the song seems to kinda lack some energy and so as a viewer you kinda expect the video to fire up at some time but of course that doesn't happen... but still, other than that minor issue it's a very good piece of work! Simple but effective style of editing!
Empire Editz : Brilliant pacing and synchro. Very nice use of overlays and effects (especially the black and white fx). Im usually never fan of this kinda of heavy metal song music videos because of how similiar they all look. But i can definately see all your hard work behind this. The overall presentation of the video is nicely done.
Very good videos from both editors. I would advice you both for your future projects to try to focus more on the emotions you'd want the viewers to feel while watching, it would bring a lot more depth to your editing.
Vote : Hard to choose, but im giving the edge to Empire Editz here.
Blackie - I really like the simplicity of this video and it seems to be an approach that has worked very well for you over the past two or so years. While that doesn't sound very complimentary, I think it's very hard to pull off these types of videos as you need a really strong sense of clip and musical selection that keeps the viewer interested, two things you do very well, imo. Thought you profiled AJ's somewhat manic character very well with your song choice and use of footage with your editing being all-around very solid. Very enjoyable video overall.
Empire Editz - Think you have a decent sense of the basics judging from this video, just about getting more experience under your belt. The video overall was pretty decent as I thought you profiled Drew's intensity fairly well at times, just felt your editing was inconsistent especially during the latter portion of your video. While I thought you matched the tone decently, your use of footage and technique didn't really hold up that well. The abrupt ending didn't do you any favors either as there was no conclusive finish. Decent job, just need to focus on polishing your technique more.
Blackie: Love this! And it's most definitely not because of the song choice. No not at all, even tho Flower Boy is one of my favorite albums ever! Seriously tho, this song goes so freaking well with AJ Lee's personality. Mainly cause it has a very chill tone and crazy verses. Kind of reminds me of the song from your Sasha video. Both songs are similar in tone, but the structure and aesthetic of both videos are entirely different. While your Sasha video has that VHS type of style, this has more of a modern look.
And you improved a lot from your last video. Although this doesn't have much of a story, it's a lot more clearer to follow. Thought the way you showcased her "Crazy" persona was perfectly executed. There was also a lot of smooth and nicely edited sections, especially during the verses (like at 0:42-1:04). And the Black and White CC looked pretty AF.
I tend to always mention this when I see it and I probably sound annoying at this point lol, but if you're gonna use the black bars, try cropping every watermark or else there isn't really isn't of point of using the bars. I don't think you had this issue in your last Sasha video, so it's kind of making me think that you included the watermarks on purpose. Maybe for aesthetic purposes? That's the only critique I have for this video lol.
Can't wait to see what you do next!
Empire Editz: Oh damn, this is fire. Thanks for introducing me to this band hehe - they sound nice!
Never seen an edit from you, but I'm highly impressed with your editing. There's definitely some things that need to be improved such as the syncing in some parts; mainly small sections where the beat of the song got quick. Like the quick sequences at 0:19-0:21, 0:38-0:40, and 0:56-0:57. The only quick sequence where I thought you did an excellent job with was at 1:42-1:44. While as the other sections were either timed a bit off or there were a little amount of clips to sync with the quick beat. You could have also added some effects like flickers or overlays to match the energy of the beats. And there were some gaps that you could have tried including clips like at 1:30-1:31.
Regardless, I do like the way this was structured and it seems like you did your best to plan out everything. The "1, 2, 3" lyric sync was sick! And the effects from 1:42-end looked stunning. Great job on saving those effects till last, as it was a great way to finish this chaotic video.
At first, I was a bit caught off guard with that small section of Drew's work back in 2011 (at 0:59) and it makes me wonder if that section was needed since most of this video is displaying Drew's present WWE run. But it does make a bit sense since there's a lyric later in the video that says "look at me now I wanna tell you something", kind of representing Drew's story from being humiliated to being a top guy.
Still, I do think that section could have been left out and replaced with clips of his present work. Maybe it's just me. Either way, this was a awesome video. And I thought the editing was a bit more ambitious than your opponent's editing.
Blackie: It's pretty difficult to made simple video look awesome, but you did your job perfectly. High level pacing dude, video just keeps giving me good mood, i like it. Some blend transitions looks little harsh for me, but not critical overall. Awesome edit, well done.
Empire Editz: Not bad edit at all, i see good pacing, i feel some energy, but you have a lot of mistakes that makes this video messy a bit. At first some clips literally doesn't fit with song, just like at 0:57, you lost some aggressive here. Random effects doesn't make this video better too, shake effects starting at 0:22 are useless, would be a lot better without them in my opinion, but that old film effect at ending was nice. Of course rough song cut doesn't sounds good too. It's cool job for me anyway, keep evolving in stuff like that.
