Really fun video I love this video a lot (Also just love AJ Lee videos in general lol). You're a really good editor in general, quite underrated in my opinion your videos are always great. AJ Lee and Tyler The Creator work so well, I actually have an unfinished AJ video to a Tyler The Creator song which I feel like finishing after seeing this. Glad you could fill in as I see you getting quite far in this battle royal. This video had a really chilled out vibe to it, and the editing went well with it. You did a great job with syncing everything together and keeping a constant pace with the video in general. Hope to see you in future competitions, would love to have a match with you next competition if you are willing to.
Eh, honestly this video does no justice whatsoever. This looks like you literally grabbed a bunch of network specials and chucked the slow mo shots onto your editing timeline and synced it to the song. It had no meaning in general (unless I am just not seeing it) and it feels like you rushed this in an hour to save no-showing. The overlay doesn't look to great either, it doesn't look nice over all the clips and actually makes some of the clips really hard to see. If you are aiming to do make a wrestling freestyle, you should at least aim to show some sort of wrestling in it, not just chuck a bunch of Mani shots together. I feel as if you're still trying to grasp onto your own style as an editor in general, you need to just start being you in your editing and it will gradually progress as you go, I feel you take a lot of inspiration from other editors and try and mirror a bunch of different styles into each video you make which doesn't seem to be working out too much. Just be you man and it will slowly come, I know you stress a lot over it at times but it takes time to find the sort of route which will give you passion to better stuff.
Blackie : You already know my opinion. I acutally feel like this video's been growing on me and gets better every time i watch it.
EX : Well that needs a lot more work. The idea of using slow mo footages isnt bad as long as you manage to give a clear direction to your video and the viewer somewhat understands what you're trying to achieve, which wasn't the case here. The overlay you used didn't look good either imo. I would advise you to keep your videos short like this one but use a bit faster paced songs where your can try to synch/pace the video using some actions footages, that would help you improve by working on your synching pacing and clips selection. Then off course you can blend in the slow mo footages in there on the slower parts of the song. But the core of a wrestling freestyle gotta be 'wrestling'.
Blackie: I really like the simplicity of this video and it seems to be an approach that has worked very well for you over the past two or so years. While that doesn't sound very complimentary, I think it's very hard to pull off these types of videos as you need a really strong sense of clip and musical selection that keeps the viewer interested, two things you do very well, imo. Thought you profiled AJ's somewhat manic character very well with your song choice and use of footage with your editing being all-around very solid. Very enjoyable video overall.
-EX-: Idea was there, just didn't think you had enough time to really execute on it as it looked really rushed. While I liked the general tone and clip selection, it gets very repetitive and as a result, never picks up. Show me reasons why I'm looking at wrestlers holding up titles, why the aerial shots and pyro clips are there, build your structure point around that and things will make more sense. The way it's done here would've had more impact in 30 seconds, not a minute in a half.
-EX- : Tremendous job on capturing the out of this world ambience from this song. Although I do find it a bit unoriginal when freestyles tend to mainly use Wrestlemania clips, I thought that in this case these types of clips fit well with the aesthetic. I definitely would have loved to have seen clips from past Wrestlemanias as well, as only showing clips from the past 2 WMs and a few others makes this look rushed.
Editing wise theres nothing wrong with it. The overlay was simple but I found it to be mesmerizing. However, this doesn't look like a complete video. And I truly believe that you can do much better if you truly commit to a project. You've definitely grown as an editor and it sucks that you cant see how great you are. I can tell that you understand what makes a great video, but it just takes time and effort to do so.
I kind of wanna see you remake this to your best potential and just have fun with it.
Dont know if theres an idea behind this video, but from what I get from these clips is that Wrestlemania is a big spectacle and the best feeling for a wrestler is to accomplish their goal at the grandest stage. Maybe you can try building more off this idea in a remake. That's if you want to of course. But I really want to see you put all your effort into a project that you find fun on doing without caring what others might think. No video is perfect, every video will be met with critiques. And an editor gets better with the critiques they receive as they'll know what to work on in their future projects. Dont be afraid to fail and experiment. At the end of the day, this is just a community where we're all just having fun and wanting to help each other. Always feel free to reach out to others if you ever need help, feedback, or your stuck with a project you're making. As words of encouragement are always helpful when you need motivation to finish a project to your best ability.
Blackie has the more complete video of the 2. And the video is still highly enjoyable after several watches.
